A Little About Me

Picture
My name is Laura De Bruyn.  I live in Launceston, Northern Tasmania, the island state of Australia. My husband and soul mate lost his long and brave battle with cancer in March 2018. My companions are now Penelope and Pusspuss of the feline variety, and Demi - a chocolate Labradore/Smithfield/Kelpie lad to keep us girls on our toes.  I am a trained early childhood educator with a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma of Languages (Indonesian) to my name.

I have been making lace since 2006, and enjoy all aspects of my craft including design, tool making and teaching.  I have especially developed an interest in wood turning to make bobbins and flame glass work to make my spangle beads and divider pins.

I have been a member of the Australian Lace Guild since 2006 and love attending workshops at every opportunity to develop my lace making skills and knowledge.  I have completed Australian proficiencies in stage 1 tatting and stage 2 Torchon lace and am currently working towards my stage 3 Torchon and Teachers Certificate.

Awards include 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards at the Launceston Agricultural Show in the Home Industries for both lace making and beads over a number of years since 2007.  I also won the Australian Triennial Award for the bobbin lace section in 2012 with a collar inspired by the poem My Australia by Dorothea  McKellar.

I look forward to meeting many lace makers through my own personal development goals and this site.
